I first heard of Snoop when I was 14, these kids from the classes above me always talked about this guy named Snoopy they listen to when they want to vibe out. At 15 "borrowed" my cousin's Doggystyle CD, I didn't know anything about classic albums etc.... I just knew about Bouyon, Soca, Reggae and a little rap as a kid growing up in Dominica. Aye going from listening to Beres Hammond in your Grand mother's kitchen to Snoop was something I wasn't prepared for.
Doggystyle broke my audio virginity to the point I studied certain lyrics to a song, in preparation I'd see that one woman waaaaaaaay older then me to sound like I was grown and knew my shit! I know if my Grandmother caught me listening to that, I might aswell have got in the ring with Mike Tyson. But I was addicted to the new sound and man as for that pimp talk JHEEEEEEEEZE! Thing is we know Snoop enjoys having organic salads every hour of a day and talks about it alot, but if you really listen to Snoop's stuff dude can spit game to women and come smooth with it.
From then on I've been a fan, when I could pay for my own shit started investing in Snoop's albums. My favorite Snoop albums after Doogystyle are The Last Meal and R&G - (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece.
I don't smoke weed but Snoop makes that shit sound fly as a mutherfucker. I should some people at work the other day my top ten rappers, they were surprised to see Snoop among the likes of Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Nas etc... But I think Snoop is that guy on the microphone to, think time proves that point all day. All that said, I haven't seen the legend live and direct, I'm gonna make that happen though.
He is a true legend in this Hip Hop culture, so I respect that he again re-invent himself to embrace and take a new path with the Rastafarian culture. Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion look may you continue to sprinkle the game with that west coast G'd up swagger or the new wave your bringing to the table. #Salute
